The tips of the branches of maple trees in the yard are turning red. There are two maple trees here, one is an Acer palmatum (Japanese maple), and the other is “Chishio,” which has blood-red leaves. They have a beautiful color contrast between the bright red and fresh green. I’m so excited to see the leaves unfurl in spring. I’m sad that winter is gone, winter can be very harsh, but it means it’s a real joy when spring comes.
A Garden that is Awaiting Komorebi*
We finally will add the finishing touches tothe garden. I went there with assorted trees that go well with it and planted them. The deciduous trees have no leaves yet, but I’m happy to be able to see their trunks growing straight from the room window.
*Komorebi is Japanese, meaning the dappled sunlight shining through the leaves of trees.
We planted trees in different areas, some to block the view of the neighborhood with plants, and others to enjoy the sunlight and the seasons. By doing so, each tree could get a suitable place to grow and role. We removed the remaining roots of plants and made hard soil soft so that the new plants could grow roots. Now, both evergreen trees and deciduous trees can show their features and beauty.
The day we did the planting work was so cold, and the next day, there were ice needles, and the plants looked frozen. I will enjoy the rest of the work as the temperature will warm up soon, and new sprouts will come up from muddy spring ground. I believe spring is the time when all plants, including perennial plants and deciduous trees, look most beautiful. I’m eagerly waiting for spring to come with my customers.
