It’s getting warmer and warmer. In the yard, Camellia buds finally started to open. I heard the story that samurai disliked the camellia because they thought it was bad luck to see their flowers falling with their necks. But the story seemed different overseas. In 16th century Europe, Camellia was called the “Rose of the East,” and they developed many varieties of camellia. They enjoyed camellias in gardens as a flower that signals the arrival of spring, just as we do now in Japan.
Observing Plant Growth
It is the time of year when it is fun to spend a day in a garden. If you have a yard or grow some plants in pots, then you might be excited to see your plants becoming more active. We, too, enjoy creating gardens, especially during this season, spring and summer, when vivid green plants can be seen everywhere. The finished garden has a different beauty from the winter garden.
These flowers in the pots are growing day by day during this season. We will use them for the upcoming garden construction, and we are taking care of them in our office until they go to the customer’s place. Every time I go to work, I can see how their buds grow, and it is so exciting to watch how they will look. By the way, they are clematis in the picture above, and it’s said that some varieties grow to be taller than humans in a few months. I will enjoy observing how they will bloom.
These flowers are, perhaps, waiting for their chance to bloom, getting ready for that. In the transition from winter to spring, the landscape changes dramatically. I can tell how busy trees and plants are just for preparation. It is still so cold that I curl up in a ball, but it is time for us to get prepared for the new season, just like plants do. Spring is almost here, and we can feel a nice breeze soon.
