Hi, there.
It was warm over the weekend in the Kansai region, but then we had rainy and chilly days again. This kind of weather is called “三寒四温- sankanshion-,” meaning to a cycle of three cold days and four warm days. Please take care of yourself, as it is easy to catch a cold when the temperature is unstable.
Maintenance that is More Important than Anything
We recently went to a ryokan (Japanese inn) to do a regular garden clean-up. It is a small garden, and we cleaned up fallen leaves on the roof and gutter.
If there are plenty of fallen leaves in a hotel, it doesn’t look clean. And if it is the place where guests frequently pass by, we might want to keep the space clean.
Spaces can get a new look simply by cleaning, without any pruning or a lot of work. Cleaning also allows grasses under fallen leaves to get sunlight, eliminating the cause of steaming. If you clean up your garden regularly, you can constantly check its condition. That’s why cleaning is essential to keep your garden tidy.
Pruning and other gardening works are important, but the shortest way to keep your garden beautiful is that clean up on a daily routine basis. I know it is hard to go outside and do some gardening work because of the cold weather, but try to prepare your garden for the coming of spring.
