Stories We Tell -綴り-

An Oasis in Everyday Life

Written by Yukari Matsumoto | May 29, 2022

Hi there.

At this time of year, the water lilies in my office show their faces. I’m amazed by the accuracy of their biological clocks, as they bloom in the morning and close their petals to sleep in the afternoon. The name water lily (睡蓮) comes from that lotus(蓮) that takes a nap (午睡). I’m impressed by the beauty of nature that such beautiful white flowers bloom out of the mud.

Visiting a Finished Garden

The garden we recently visited for finishing touches has been completed. (There is still a little bit of work left) I was responsible for selecting plants, and I had many conversations with the client before it was finished.

It's a courtyard garden centered around architecture on all four sides. The natural stone decking is in the center of the garden, and it is a place for the family to gather and chill out. It can be used for various scenes of daily life, such as soaking up the sun and cooling off in the evening. You can enjoy the different views from the window in each room.

By making the deck and the wooden porch at the same height, we aimed to create a single continuous space that blends in with the lifestyle of the client.

We hope that the garden will become an integral part of their daily lives as they live with it.

I will continue to devote myself to creating gardens so that we can propose a lifestyle that brings the four seasons into everyday life. I hope that we can create a garden that is not only the most beautiful when it is completed but also one that grows over time as we nurture it.
