Making Steady Preparations

Hi, there.

Pieris japonica (Japanese andromeda) flowers are starting to bloom. Since they begin to flower before it gets warmer, I can tell that spring is here when I see them in bloom. Their white flowers look like bells, resembling the lily of the valley. The flowers are beautiful when they are at their peak, as you can see white flowers falling from among the leaves.

50 Years of History

We are currently organizing our office for a project. The other day, we worked on moving trees to prepare for that. Fifty years ago, our chairman created the garden for Oomi Teien. Various trees are growing deep roots and are utterly unmoved by small power. In February, young staff members worked hard and sweated as they dug up the trees.

Since the space is too narrow to use machines, all we could do was work with our hands. The trees are so strong that they’ve survived here through rain and wind for 50 years. We knew that it would take a lot of energy to dig them up, and actually, it did. We felt a powerful sense of history.

To weave a new Oomi Teien’s story, we have to move the trees temporarily from the place where they have been standing for 50 years. Even if we move the trees for a good reason, it will not be healthy for trees. We will keep taking care of them so that they will be well cured and ready to welcome spring.

These are Oribe lanterns, and they will also move to another place for a while. We also will keep taking care of them together to weave 50 years of history.
